Lovable to Mobile App: Despia vs Rork

Both Despia and Rork will take a Lovable app and get it onto the App Store and Google Play. They do it in fundamentally different ways, and that difference decides what your life looks like after launch, not just on launch day.

Here is the honest breakdown.

What Rork's Lovable to Mobile actually does

Rork does a ground-up rebuild. It reads your Lovable app as a reference for design and behavior, the colors, typography, layout, copy, and interactions, and then writes a brand new app in the target platform's native stack:

  • iOS: a real Swift / SwiftUI app

  • Android: a real Kotlin / Jetpack Compose app with Material 3

  • Web: a standalone Vite + React app

Nothing from the Lovable codebase is carried over. The output is genuinely native code, and for a certain class of apps that is exactly what you want. If your app lives or dies on frame-by-frame animation, heavy gesture work, or deep platform integration, native rendering is the right tool.

But the rebuild produces a second project. You now own two codebases that describe the same product: the Lovable one you built in, and the native one Rork generated. That is the part that matters after launch.

What Despia's Lovable to Mobile does

Despia does not fork your app. It takes the web app you already built and ships it as a real native binary, with your web code running inside the platform WebView (WKWebView on iOS, the Chromium-based WebView on Android) and native device features bridged in through a single JavaScript function.

You keep one codebase: your Lovable app. It is still your Lovable app. Native capabilities are called from the same web code: biometrics, push, in-app purchases, background GPS, haptics, home widgets.

The real difference: one source of truth, or two

This is the whole post in one line. Rork gives you a separate native app to maintain. Despia keeps your app a single source of truth.

With the rebuild model, every change after launch lands twice. You fix a bug or ship a feature in Lovable, then that change has to make it into the native app as well, which means another rebuild pass and another review of the generated Swift or Kotlin. The two codebases drift. The native one is a snapshot of your Lovable app at the moment it was generated, and snapshots go stale the moment you keep building.

With Despia there is nothing to re-port. You edit your Lovable app, and the app updates.

Updates ship without a resubmission

Because your web content is not baked into the binary, Despia uses remote hydration: on launch, the app loads your current build from your hosting URL. Push a change to your Lovable app and it is live in the native app on the next launch. No new binary and no App Store review for web content changes. Only native configuration changes trigger a rebuild.

The native-rebuild model cannot do this. The app is the compiled code. A copy change, a layout tweak, a new screen, all of it is a new build and a new trip through store review, and review is not measured in minutes.

"But you give up native"

The fair objection to the Despia model is that a wrapped web app is not SwiftUI, and that is true. What is not true is that you give up native capability. Despia exposes 50+ native features through the SDK, the same Face ID, background location, RevenueCat billing, OneSignal push, HealthKit, and home widgets you would reach for in a native build, without leaving your web codebase. For the large majority of apps shipped from tools like Lovable, the web platform handles the UI and the bridge handles the device. You are trading SwiftUI rendering for keeping one codebase, and for most of these apps that is the correct trade.

When it is not, when you are building a real game loop or a LiDAR scanner, Despia exports the full Xcode and Android Studio projects and you go fully native. The door is not locked.

When Rork is the right call

Be honest about this. If you are building an app where native rendering is the product, hardware-heavy, animation-heavy, tightly bound to platform UI, and you are prepared to maintain that native project as its own thing, Rork's rebuild gives you real native code and it is good at it. Reviews of the generated output note that a meaningful share of bugs still need hand edits in the exported codebase, so budget for native maintenance, but the native path is a legitimate one.

The question is not which tool is better. It is whether you want your mobile app to be the same app you keep building in Lovable, or a separate native app that happens to look like it.
